One of the tools that all successful online business owners have is a target email list. If you don’t have one please fix that right away. Over time it can be a big part of where you make most of your money. You are building a personal and/or business brand and you need a way to communicate with your audience/customers/clients.

When someone visits your website you want them to not just read your content, but you want them to also take action. You want them to call, email, or buy something. One thing you must know is that most people who visit your website will not do anything (unless you are a grand master at conversion). They might bookmark your site.

But here’s the problem. You’ve just put in a lot of work getting that visitor to your website. They came and left. You have no way of getting back in touch with that person. But if you have a way to keep in touch with that person, you can remind them that you exist and keep them coming back to your website.

There have been studies that show that someone needs to see an advertisement 7 times before they buy. If that is true then you can’t rely on your website convincing them the first time. You need to create a way to stay in touch with them. Creating an email list of targeted people is an easy way to do this.

Once you have a list of people who are interested in your blog, company or service you can communicate with them for free. If you have a sale going on…send them an email. If you have a new blog post…send them an email.

When you have a list of people who are interest in a specific topic you can sell them stuff. The most obvious thing is you can sell them your products and services. But you can do much more than that. You can promote other people’s products as an affiliate. You can sell advertising in your email newsletter. You can even do an ad swap. This is where you send an email to your list on behalf of similar product or service (not competing with yours of course) in exchange for someone else doing the same thing for you.

Easy to set up & automate

Setting up and using a form to capture emails is easy. Email marketing software will give you the code to copy and paste to put on your website. You can also give the code to your web designer to add to your site.

One cool feature that a lot of email marketing tools come with is called an autoresponder. This is a feature that automatically sends emails on a certain day or time or when a specific action is taken. So when someone joins your email list you can have a series of emails explaining your service, product, or whatever, even more.

Conclusion

Having an email list should be on of your DEFAULT tools in your passive income business. You need to stay in touch with your audience. With email marketing you can accomplish this easily, cheaply, and automate it as well.
